The Cost Engineer plays a critical role during bid development by developing accurate cost estimates and ensuring a structured and transparent cost basis for decision-making. The role is responsible for identifying cost drivers (Bill of Quantities – BoQ), collecting cost data from procurement and supplier inquiries, and maintaining the organization’s cost control system. A key function is to benchmark contractor and supplier costs, detect pricing anomalies, and support the project team in achieving cost certainty. The Senior Cost Engineer also contributes to the long-term strategy of linking cost data to BIM objects and digital workflows.

Job responsibilities:
•    Maintain detailed cost estimates and cost control within the project WBS during the execution phase based on defined scopes and BoQs.
•    Collect and structure cost data from procurement processes, supplier quotes, and historical benchmarks.
•    Manage, update and continuously improve the cost control system to support consistent and reliable cost reports in the project.
•    Benchmark contractor and supplier offers to identify deviations, pricing strategies or errors.
•    Apply structured cost classification principles (e.g., AACEI cost classes) to support transparency and traceability.
•    Prepare and present cost updates, timephasing etc for project baseline updates.
•    Actively participate in project quantitative risk analysis.
•    Collaborate with the project team, procurement, contracts and finance to ensure alignment on cost assumptions.
•    Provide scenario-based cost analysis to support project decisions.
•    Contribute to the future integration of cost data with BIM models and digital estimation tools.

Your experience and qualifications:
•    Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, construction economics, or a related field.
•    Familiarity with AACEI cost classification and estimation principles.
•    Experience with cost control, finance and estimation tools and digital platforms (e.g., Omega 365, Xledger, Excel, CostX, BIM-integrated tools).
•    Fluency in English and a Scandinavian language is a requirement.
•    Experience in cost estimation, quantity surveying, or cost engineering in construction or infrastructure projects.
•    Strong understanding of cost control systems, analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret technical and commercial data.
•    Familiarity with the client (byggherre) role and cost control requirements in turnkey and total contract models.
•    Able to work in a fast-paced role.
•    Structured and proactive approach to building and maintaining cost models and databases.
