Techconsult is the link between jobs and professionals. For one of our customers we are now looking for a Commissioning Engineer-Snøhvit Future Project-Commissioning / LCI 28509
The Snøhvit Future project is a major industrial and environmental initiative led by Equinor and the Snøhvit partnership to upgrade the Hammerfest LNG facility on Melkøya island, ensuring long-term gas production and significantly cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
Key Components Onshore Compression:
• As reservoir pressure in the offshore Snøhvit field declines, onshore compressor modules will maintain sufficient gas flow and plateau production, preventing fluid buildup in the 143km multiphase pipeline from field to shore.
• Electrification: The plant will replace its existing gas-turbine generators with clean power from the mainland. This requires a new grid connection, including a tunnel for power cables from Hyggevatn to Meland and subsea cables across to Melkøya, plus a new 420 kV power line from Skaidi to Hyggevatn.
• Major Installations: The work involves installing three primary new modules on Melkøya: a compressor, a transformer substation, and electric steam boilers.
• Environmental Impact & TimelineEmissions Reductions: Electrification is projected to cut annual CO₂ emissions by 850,000 tonnes—equivalent to about 2% of Norway's total annual emissions—dropping the plant's carbon intensity from 3.8 to 0.6 grams of CO₂ equivalent per megajoule.
• Schedule & Budget: Onshore compression startup is targeted for 2029, with full electrification switching on in 2030. The total estimated investment for the project is approximately NOK 20 billion.
